‘The Savernake Series’ is body of work inspired by the haunting and myths of the Savernake forest in Wiltshire. There is a particular focus on the legend of the ‘headless horsewoman’, who rides along the Grand Avenue. Fragments of the female face, eye, or hair appear, abstracted in all the works, as well as collaged tree rubbings in charcoal taken from the forest itself.
The artist began these works as part of her residency at Rabley Gallery in 2020.
Influenced by the British Surrealist movement, such as Roland Penrose and Eileen Agar, the tapestries and murals of John Piper and Le Corbusier’s Ronchamp Chapel.
